Thackeray's Strong Reactions to Relief Measures

Uddhav Thackeray, the leader of Shiv Sena (UBT), has labeled the recent relief package announced by the Devendra Fadnavis-led Maharashtra government for farmers as the "biggest joke in history."

While addressing a rally in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the former Chief Minister warned that if the state government fails to declare a complete loan waiver for farmers affected by floods and rains, they will take to the streets.

Thackeray remarked, "The financial assistance declared by the Maharashtra government for farmers is the biggest joke in history." He also pointed out that during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Maharashtra, he did not mention anything regarding the farmers' plight.

Modi had inaugurated the first phase of the Navi Mumbai International Airport on Wednesday.

Thackeray further noted that despite having a significant majority, the government seems afraid to appoint a leader of the opposition in the state assembly.

Earlier this week, the state government announced a compensation package of ₹31,628 crores for farmers who suffered extensive losses due to rain and flooding, stating that the total assistance would amount to ₹48,000 per hectare.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis mentioned that the government would announce a loan waiver at the appropriate time and is preparing a comprehensive memorandum to present the losses to the central government.
